I’ve always wanted a old VW Westy to call my own, but the practicality and cost of owning one right now just wasn’t ideal. After months of searching and researching vans, I found this Chevy Astro conversion van online. I bought it on a whim, used all my airline travel miles and flew from Nebraska to New Hampshire to get it right before Christmas. Luckily I have some badass friends in Jersey City who share my sense of wanderlust. They both cancelled their flights back to NE, and decided to make the long haul return trip back across the country with me. We drove almost 20 hours straight through a mixture of heavy rain, sleet, snow, and blistering cold. Luckily the van performed flawlessly.
I plan on spending many days traveling / camping / photographing / climbing with this (yet to be named) rig. Also, the thought of going completely nomadic and becoming a dirtbag climber / photographer has been in the back on my mind a lot lately. I’m not going to jump right into things, but i’m definitely working my way in that direction.
